Closing Down for Earth Hour
If you look at the top of this blog, you’ll see a special toolbar. It’s to show I support Earth Hour, which happens this year on March 28th between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
Earth Hour is an energy-saving initiative to combat the greenhouse effect and protect our environment.
You can find out more at the Earth Hour website.
The message bar at the top of this blog is via a plug-in from the good folk over at Brave New Code. When 8.30pm arrives on March 28th, it will disable my blog for an hour and display a special Earth Hour message instead.
The environment affects us all, and if all it takes to spread the message about Earth Hour is 60 minutes of a blog’s real estate, that’s got to be worth it, no?
If you’re running a self-hosted WordPress blog and want to show your support, you can download the plug-in here.
- Update Monday March 23. If you run a Drupal-powered site, you can download a module here, thanks to Open Concept.

I can stand behind this concept and support it. Passing along…
I’m in, Danny.
I’ve blogged about Earth Hour for two years in a row now; you can search my archives. Hadn’t known of the plugin; thanks!
Thanks for promoting Earth Hour! Another way you can recruit people to the cause is by creating a Earth Hour group on Commit21.com. Simply create a group about one action that you will commit to do for Earth Hour and recruit your friends, family, and co-workers to get involved in that action as well. When it comes to climate change, simple actions can make huge differences and Commit21 leverages social media to influence networks of friends, family, and co-workers. Check it out at http://www.commit21.com
I can get behind that. Don’t suppose there is a plugin for Joomla? I’m sure I can come up with something.
Nice initiative… thanks for putting this on my radar!

I will support the earth hour. 1 hour of no electricity to show how much I care for our mother earth. I’m spreading the word as well so that everyone will participate.
