Soundbites and Snippets

If you look to the right of this blog and scroll down a little, you’ll see a widget entitled “soundbites”. It’s from my latest home online, Posterous.

Perfect for both casual and more serious bloggers, Posterous is based on a pretty funky idea – to make blogging as simple as possible for as many people as possible.

You don’t even have to have an account, if you don’t want one – you can email your posts in. Simply send the text, images, media files or whatever you want to post and the Posterous team do the rest.

This could make Posterous ideal for CEO’s and top-tier management that don’t have time for blogging but appreciate the benefits of having one. If they can type an email message they can have their own corporate blog.

So why am I on there when I already have this blog?

Sometimes I have ideas that aren’t quite fully-fledged blog posts but are more than just a Twitter statement. Soundbites, if you like. This is where Posterous is ideal.

Basically I’ll be using it to post words and mini-ideas that you might find useful as a starting point for your own. Or not – I never said I was that clever!

Feel free to pop on over and say hello, or start your own Posterous and let me know where you’re at. Leave your URL in the comments – I’ll be sure to drop by.

Thanks for the heads up on this one as this is perfect for me… I have many ’soundbites’ that I wouldn’t mind testing before I turn them into complete blog posts.

Great content, I’ve added your site to my bookmarks and will be back again!

      Hi Karl,

What I really like about Posterous is the email option. Instead of me having to worry about formatting, images, etc, I just send the email in and Posterous does it all.

Perfect if you want to blog but can’t spare the time. Don’t forget to share your URL when you’re live! :)

Pretty cool, Danny. You’re absolutely, right. This would be an interesting tool for executive bloggers. One of the chief complaints I hear all the time–I have no time. This addresses that head on (I’ve also used voice-recorded and transcribed blog posts as a solution). Thanks for the info!

Imagine if that was a feature that Posterous brought in – voice posts courtesy of mp3. There’d be no excuse at all for non-executive blogging. It could really open up companies to a whole new audience.

Which can only be a good thing.

    Danny,

If these thoughts aren’t full fledged posts OR tweet worthy have you now started to fill the void with “Tweeners”? Maybe “Twixters” (for betwixt and between)? You have to jump on this one, name it and corner the market!

Very cool. Thanks for the information as always. Keep up the great work!

A lot of people picked up on this service. How do you manage everything? Things get crazy if you are on so much stuff. I recently joined FF because it was a better aggregator then Mybloglog I guess. I have no idea.

How does BabelFish work? I am glad it is a yahoo product because I have been pretty loyal to that brand.

I only concentrate my efforts on the good one, Jamie :)

My blog is my home; Twitter is where I meet my friends; Posterous is where I put my post-its; and others I come and go with. Friendfeed is mainly an aggregator.

Babelfish will translate the page into any of the supported languages – I get a few readers from abroad so it makes sense to have a translator. I don't think it's perfect but I see stats to show that it does get used frequently, so as long as it helps get the gist of the post, that's the main thing!
