Do Not Disturb

Your voicemail is permanently on (or your secretary is diverting calls). Your office is a no-go area except to the limited few. Your cell phone has dedicated ringtones so only three people get through (and they’re all “Yes” people).

You’re permanently in meetings that you’ve arranged that don’t need to happen – the earth won’t fall away if you miss one of them. Simply put, you’re so busy that your life is one big “Do Not Disturb” sign.

Your competitors, on the other hand, like to be disturbed. They like new ideas from the many. They like phone calls; emails; faxes. They like meetings that only happen when… well, when something happens or needs to.

In short, your competitors are busy being disturbed by customers. Isn’t it about time you unlocked some doors?

Great post! Enjoyed it the second time as well. Our recent conversation with @timjahn about the need for multiple blogs for different types of posting actually came up again tonight. Been thinking about that conversation quite a bit since the three of us had it. Like the idea of everything in one place, now I need to figure out if that is Posterous or WP…

I LOVE these types of posts from you, Danny. You short, punchy posts are very well written, yet detailed enough to visualize the whole story you're telling.

Buh duh buh buh duhhhh….I'm lovin' it!

    (yes. I just did that.)

If you are in sales but you are always on internal company meetings and presentations therefore diverting all your calls to your voice mail and email;s with on meeting notices; you are dead; because your competition is all over after your business. What really makes me go nuts….is when I see these reps that set out an automatically out office reply after 5 hours since you sent the email:

” If you receive this message is because I am visiting customers; pls call your inside sales…..customer service person…..”

First question – I don;t care where or whom you are with I need your help right now.
Second – If you are visiting “customers” then who Am I? Am I a customer?

This is the best thing you could do for your competitor; because the next message; email, call is going to be to your competitor.
