Obviously…

A new study by the Institute of Marriage and Family Canada comes up with some amazing facts:

  • Teen girls who smoke marijuana are much more likely to be sexually active
  • Getting drunk more often correlates with an increased likelihood of sexual activity
Um… no shit, Sherlock. (To be fair, there’s also an alarming statistic about suicide).

Studies that report what we already know aren’t studies; they’re merely expensive validations of common sense. How about reporting what we don’t know? Or is that too much like common sense, too?

I say let's do a study on the intelligence of those who do these studies :) say that 3 times fast :)

How about a study on how studies that are obvious enjoy consistent new studies? ;)

I sent your post to friend of mine and his response was " I was a heavy drinker when i was younger, but then my girlfriend got pregnant and i thought it would be a good time to stop" No Sh*t Sherlock.... I think their next study should be to see if driving drunk causes more accidents- I would be interested in the results (sarcasm)- too much

Props for the best description ever of frustrated annoyance! :)

ugh- you know as someone who is having to personally fund her own research study- this really chaps my a*! to think funds were wasted on the obvious!

True. Which makes me wonder about "us" at times, Jeff ;-)

Danny, I actually think the title of this should be, "Duh." :-) And while you're singing my song, unfortunately people need these studies. Many retort, "Meh...that's just conjecture" until you smack them in the face with stats and suddenly it's, "Huh...maybe we should do something about it." And that's when I join your "No @#!! Sherlock."
