Introducing DANgerous Liaisons

SUNSETOkay, so first, apologies again for the no-show of part three of the Social Media Hub series. I’ve been snowed under with a lot of 12for12k stuff, so I apologize sincerely and promise that the remaining parts will (mostly) be consecutive all this week.

Now… on to some juicy stuff (hopefully).

I recently wrote a guest post over at Sarah Robinson’s blog about the Bounceability of Craptastic. It was a bit different from the normal topics here, and a nice change of pace if you like.

Which set me thinking.

Obviously my “niche”, if you like, is social media, marketing, business strategy and other stuff around that niche.

Yet I’m also very interested in the human psyche, and how that reflects on all we do, both personally and professionally (as seen by my post and the following discussions over at Sarah’s). So…

I’m introducing a new part of the blog, although I need your thoughts on where. After speaking to the uber-cool and wonderful friend Christina Kingston, the gist of the new addition is sorted. It’ll be about people – to be more specific, how we improve as people without the distractions of social networks in the way.

Now, it’ll either be as a regular series here on a Sunday, for example, or as a sub-domain to the main DannyBrown.me domain. Do you guys have a preference, and more importantly, would you even be interested?

As always, the comments are yours.

  • After some conversations and the realization that DANgerous Liaisons was just a tad cheesy as a title, the series will now be called Untapped. Hope you enjoy!

I’d be happy with it right here and I love hearing others’ thoughts on human-y things. Sounds like it will be some sort of socio-psych theories of learning posts we’ll be getting?

Hey Sarah, I’m a shameful bugger to bogart Danny’s comment section but I wanted to say, You’re Awesome Too!

“Sarah Robinson´s most recent blog post …9 ways to do more of what you love [Day 27 - 30 Days to Changing Your Game]” -most excellent.

    Top of the morning Danny,

I think you should keep it right here at home and looking forward to being inspired :)

    Leave it here.

Some of your previous posts already deal with some of this, and I think it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to include it within the blog itself. Also, if you would choose to make it a regular on a certain day (like Sunday) it makes it clear that on that day you’re going in that direction. Every other day it’s back to business as usual.

    Danny,

I completely salute this new move on your part. How we think and how we grow as people is foundational (for me) to everything else we do.

No mess, no fuss if you leave it right here on your blog.

    Can’t wait!

Right here, right now. I like the idea of posting on a Sunday; people, coffee, the NY Times Crossword and you. A great way to spend the day.

Thanks for the feedback, guys – looks like keeping it here on the blog on a dedicated Sunday is the popular choice. So that’s where I’ll keep it :)

That’s a very wise move Danny. All of us have a longing to improve ourselves. And thus sharing what we’ve learned as a person can make a huge impact on the life of others. The most valuable contribution we can give to others are the wisdom that can make others grow and improve their lives.

    Life is all lessons. :-)

Perhaps I am misinterpreting what is happening here.

Just as background. I live two blocks from Google Headquarters, and one of my friends works there.

He tells me that anytime I hear the word HUB to run for the hills. That that site is going to be in trouble with Google soon.

I know I must have heard him wrong, but evidently there are lots of black hats in India that are using hubs, and when they are discovered, Google in effect bans the sites.

So, since I am not the brightest gem in the pile, could you explain to me what the hub social media technique means to you, so that I can then explain to my buddies what is going on.

I can probably then do you some good.

    Stetson.

      Hi Stetson,

I think this comment may have been for one of the social media hub posts? ;-)

But to answer your question, a hub is basically a collection point for your other outposts. So, your blog would be the starting point for Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Ning, Flickr, and other social media sites.

It’s simply a way to manage your time better, and allow your connections a one-stop shop where they can find you, as opposed to being fractured over the web.

The HUBS you mention are similar to many BANS sites where blackhat SEO techniques are used, and this is what Google frown upon.

      Cheers,

      Danny.

I think you should keep it here.

Since social media is just a sophisticated and digital extension of the human necessity to reach out and make connections, it’s perfectly in tune with your blog.

Plus, I think there is nothing wrong with allowing yourself to write on a topic of interest nestled within your niche. Sometimes we all need a break and a more relaxed, more vulnerable conversation every now and again. I second the motion for waking up on my day of rest to coffee, a bagel, the NYT and Danny Brown.

@Danny – I would definitely be interested in this series. As someone who always waxes poetic (or tries to anyway) about intimate business relationships I’d love to see someone with your level of knowledge/experience take a step back from all the tools and look at the core of what makes business work: people.

I think my preference would be to start it out as a series and see how you like writing about it, and then if it acquires a solid following, you can always move it to a sub-domain in the future.

    Best wishes mate!

First of all, the title here is as frightening as when my brother Dan used to call himself DANimal…GRRROWLLL. Now that that is out of the way, I say keep it here at first as a your Sunday section. I still feel like that jives with what your blog is all about and think it will ultimately inform other content throughout the blog. Besides, between here and Posterous, how long before things get watered down.

So just tell me where to lay down on the couch and let the psychoanalasys begin :)
