Small business.

Often we forget the little guy, the SMB, in our discussions of the comings and goings of the Internet marketing industry. Sure there are times like this when a report surfaces talking about their issues and concerns but, for the most part, we like to talk about big brands and how they do the Internet marketing thing well or not so well.

The Center for Media Research has released a study by Vertical Response that shows just where many of these ‘Main Street’ players are going with their online dollars. The big winners: e-mail and social media. With only 3.8% of small business folks NOT planning on using e-mail marketing and with social media carrying the perception of being free (which they so rudely discover it is far from free) this should make some in the banner and search crowd a little wary.

I'm pretty sure you don't get comments on images in your posts. Dare I say this will be the first one...? Thanks for the picture of the Radio Slovakia HQ (the middle image). I haven't seen the inverted-pyramid building in years, the pic brought back good memories of my college years in Bratislava, Slovakia. Made my day!

There are so many interesting directions to go in that I get a bit overwhelmed at times. I'm taking away two items to implement from today's lesson. One, I'm installing WIBIYA and WPBook to integrate facebook into my blog. Secondly, I'm going to have a look at blogtalkradio. I was recently interviewed by Krizia because we both practice fitness boxing. The interview will air soon - on the 13th of Feb - I believe. I'm interested to see how I can use this technology. It seemed easy enough. Thanks for more insight. I'm finding this series really useful.

Danny,

Another great post. I especially like the idea of "Home Base" and "Outpost." From a SEO standpoint, this approach can also help your blog (Hub) with on page and off page optimization.

For new bloggers who are developing their Social Media Hub - using established, high authority sites like Viddler, YouTube, Facebook, etc. can truly bring great returns to their new sites.

Ride on their authority coat tails whilst building your own.

Lastly - Thank you for helping us to focus on: What do I want to achieve with each part of my hub?

My take on this: Break it down so you can build it up with a soild foundation.

Good stuff!
