An Invite to Pimp Your Blog

Mr BlingSo this week’s been really quiet on here, due to a particularly busy project over at Maritz Canada. Now that project has at least resorted to more normal activity levels, I’ll be jumping back in here and reverting back to normal frequency.

First up will be the continuation and conclusion of the 7 Days to Turn Your Blog Into a Social Media Hub series, and this will be followed by some thoughts I’ve been having around operational social media and marketing differently. So, thanks for your patience during this recent quiet spell – really appreciate it.

But before all that, I’d like to ask you a favour – share your blog.

Leave the URL and a little info about it in the comments section (don’t worry if it doesn’t appear immediately – I use a filter for multiple links, but I will publish any filtered as soon as possible).

You kindly come here to read and maybe share a post or two with your community; now I’d like to do the same. The comments are yours to share your blog with us. And while you’re there, make sure you check out some of the blogs left there – you might just find some great new reads.

Thanks for being you, guys.

Heck, if nobody else wants to be first, I’ll be your first customer! After all, that’s been the focus on my blog all week — every day, a different way to enhance blog comments.

AriWriter is my half-personal, half-business social media marketing blog with tips and strategies on just that. You can reach it via http://ariwriter.com

I’ll also add I keep a second blog, at http://council.ariwriter.com that is updated more sporadically about my reflections on politics and civics in relation to my being an elected city councilor. If you’re into that sort of thing.

Love the pimped out cat pic above. :) So, a little about my blog – http://www.dazzlindonna.com/blog/ – It’s my attempt at helping folks figure out their own strategies for making a living online. There are many many ways to make that happen, and each of us is better at some than at others, so I try to cover as many different angles as possible. I don’t have the “glitz” of some, but I share the reality, and I hope that makes a difference.

Do you watch TSN? If so, follow the sports blog critics are calling “fairly humorous” and “not bad to print out and read while taking a crap at work.”

Wondering what’s the best way to actually make some $$ off the blog? Just started up, any advice appreciated.

      Hey there Steve,

First, great looking blog! Very clean, crisp and gets the stories across to their relevant audience very well (no need to hunt through reams of directories for topics).

When it comes to monetizing your blog, there are a few options you could try.

      1. Approach manufacturers of sports products and ask if they’d like advertising space. This could be via banner ads, links, or simply a sponsored review of their product. Make sure you keep it open that it is sponsored, though. The only problem here is that since you’re a new blog, you may not have traffic levels that advertisers are looking for. But only one way to find out :)

      2. Set up accounts with paid blogging companies like Izea.com SocialSpark.com and see if there’s a fit there. Again, traffic often plays a part in what opportunities come your way and what they pay.

But my best advice? Keep blogging great and unique (or as unique as can be) content; build a solid reputation and relationship with your readers to have a regular subscription base; and you’ll start to find that companies may start to actually approach you with monetary requests.

      All the best fella!

Very strong, mate – stands out as soon as you land on the homepage. One thing you may want to do is differentiate the blues a little (I’m guessing that’s going to be the main colour for the blog?). Instead of the same colour of blue for leaf separation, header, etc, maybe a darker or lighter mix, help to separate a little?

Just a thought, though – design looks great, looking forward to your thoughts in the months ahead.

      Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for checking out 12for12k, really appreciate it (and that reminds me I need to do some admin work behind the scenes on the site!). :)

Your blog looks great, very clean and easy to manage. One thing I’d maybe suggest (and obviously it depends on your schedule) – possibly up the frequency of posts? I think at the minute it’s about one a week, which is fine, but you could maybe write a quick daily tip that’s extra to the longer weekly updates?

Doesn’t have to be a large tip – something about saving energy, or small business resources, or best tax software, etc.

Just that little change would see your content grow pretty quick, and that in itself would build increased credibility and readership for you?

As I say, just a though – great blog, look forward to seeing more of it :)

Hi Danny, thanks a lot for that opportunity.
My Italian Blog, Ma che ti sei mangiato (What Have you eaten?) http://machetiseimangiato.wordpress.com, is a foodblog born in Rome from my growning passion for food and recipes and the dedication of a voluntary Guinepig at home. It’s in Italian, but I’m always available to provide a free English traslation upon request.
It’s a personal, sincere, spontauneous blog which provide tested and real recipes. Occassionally, you’ll find pics of Rome, Italy, Europe.
It has the taste of a “friulana” (region in north-est of Italy) who is working in Rome, travelling for work and pleasure, reading a lot…and discovering the blogphere.

Danny – I’ve enjoyed your improve your blog series – this weekend’s goal is to tweak my blog and streamline it a bit. While I help others with their blogs – I need to walk my own walk – get out of my cobbler’s shoes syndrome ;~)

My blog is http://WebSavvyPR.com – is along similar lines to what you do – I write an informational blog that helps individuals, non-profits and small businesses put some strategy behind their online and offline marketing, social media and PR efforts so they can be more effective. I use my 20 years of PR experience, and have let my inner ‘geek girl’ out of the closet. So, while I can speak tech talk, I translate fluently to simple English; and I have knowledge of real-world PR strategies to back it all up.

I give my Point-of-view on topics that I get questions about from my clients – public relations, blogging, social media (strategy and tactics/tools), marketing and small business/non-profit info. I try and be thorough and give useful information in my posts – not just scratch the surface of a topic.

Like the way you’ve set up different forums for brands, Brian, as well as a more “generic” one for those that want to talk about rallying. Was there any reason you chose the brands you have so far?

      • Brian Driggs
        February 23, 2010 | 11:37 am

Thanks for checking out the site(s), Danny.

I was originally wanting to do a sort of magazine just for Mitsubishi owners (as I’ve been one for about 14 years), but a conversation with my wife one night lead to thoughts of picking up a scalable domain.

I started with Mitsubishi and within two months, I was contacted by someone on Twitter asking if she could start up a GM site. I built it and she runs it now. Same thing happened for Rally and, as recently as last week, Honda.

So far, all the growth is due to passionate individuals answering our call to action to join us if they believe in their brands as much as we believe in ours. We’re being read in something like 40 countries, seeing consistent double-digit growth, 3min+ average time on site, and average of nearly 2 pages once they land on our doorstep.

It’s passion, it’s 100% original, it’s real, and it’s all about helping others. Feels really cool to be a part of it.

        Cheers!

I own a large group blog and some business specific blogs, but have two main blogs where I am generally the sole author:

My first blog is chronicling how to make your life amazing. Right now it’s mostly chronicling the designing, building, decorating of our new custom dream home along with some other things that enhance quality of life.

The other is on my start blogging in 1 week site. It consists mostly of blogging/WordPress/Thesis tutorials and is particularly geared toward my site design clients. In other words, most of the time I’m answering specific questions they ask or giving them solutions to blogging issues.

Thanks for allowing the shout out today, Danny. I look forward to checking out some of the other readers’ sites!

Hey Danny… thanks for the opportunity to share on your site!

First of all… love that cat photo!

My blog is still a work in progress as I struggle with content every day. I have tons of ideas, many posts started, but never finish them up. But, I am working on getting more posts out faster. The blog, at the moment, is all over the place… I cover many topics, but I would say it has more of a social media flare if anything.

    My blog address is http://www.igobydoc.com

Recently one of my recent posts had a decent amount of comments, and re-tweets. The post was talking about social media hucksters.

It is fun to see how a blog can really be a home base, and tweets, facebook links etc can bring people back to the blog where conversations can continue.

    Anyway, that’s me!

Thanks for the opportunity to do this Danny.

A friend of mine once said, “I blog because not only do I have an opinion, I cannot keep it to myself.” I’ve always thought was a great line and I’m not ashamed to steal it a lot!

I named my blog “Here Comes Later” after reading the book “Now is Gone” by Geoff Livingston. I couldn’t help thinking to myself, “If now is gone, what comes next?” The obvious answer is that “later” comes next. The thing is, later comes along so quickly that we need to do our best to be prepared for it. So, that’s what I’m trying to do in many different ways. I’m trying to be ready for later because, like it or not, here it comes.

Get it? Here Comes Later… :)

Well Danny. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

I’m the press secretary for Princess Tweep at http://PrincessTweep.com. I’ll be handling the pimping today.

I’ve collected the most common questions and will do my best to answer them.

    Q. I keep hearing about Princess Tweep. Who is she?

    A. You have to ask? She’s a trusted #FunAgent and a world recognized social media guru. She’s a leader of tweeple everywhere and reporter of the obvious.

    Q. Why did she decide to blog?

She’s fighting social media fatigue and against the effects of social media tweeple who take themselves too seriously, one cartoon at a time.

    Q. What’s her most recent article?

    A. Well, it was shocking, she was the latest victim of a rash of robberies associated with playing the game Foursquare. It seems the robbers made off with her relationship baggage.

Thanks Danny! Let us know if you want us to pimp YOUR blog. We’re glad to help. Caio!

As always you are a giving helping person, so thanks for this opportunity to pimp my blog.

It’s called The Communications Strategist: http://thecommunicationsstrategist.wordpress.com/

The focus is various aspects of strategic communications (go figure). This blog was birthed in mid-July of last year and its character is still developing.

Thus far the content has been a combination of how-to’s/educational posts, articles about recent research and trends, plus commentary tossed in now and again. I mix it up and readers seem to like both the informational stuff as well as the opinion pieces. Social media, emerging trends and web topics (usability, SEO, content strategy) are primary points of interest.

No matter what, I like to share my thoughts about topics and present personality in the process — on top of basic knowledge. I hope to offer entertaining posts and very much enjoy getting feedback from readers.

I welcome all of your readers to pop by The Communications Strategist, read some posts and leave comments.

That’s the great thing about blogging, Jamie – the content is exactly how you wish it to be shaped. Just because you write about social media, or marketing, or automotives, or fly-fishing, doesn’t mean you can’t swing different angles in there that tie back to your topic.

In fact, that’s where a lot of the fun can come from – playing around with analogies that ensures others see a relevance.

Great informative blog, really well laid out as well. Perhaps the only thing I’d suggest from initial thoughts would be to have an area with case studies that can be related back to the Malaysian market?

So, it may be a success in North America, or Europe, but a social media campaign may have had its roots in Malaysia, for example? Or find successful Malaysian professionals and see what they’re doing online, and use as a reference point?

We are in the apartment business in SE Michigan, and have a company blog that drives most of our leads for new prospects, however the blog is nothing about our apartment business. http://www.urbaneapts.com/urbanereflections-blog/

The Urbane Life wanders through and around life in Royal Oak, southeastern Michigan’s hotspot for new urban living.
You might find blatherings about the coolest new organizational tool found at IKEA, info on the latest trends in small space decorating, or the hottest new artist, restaurant, or boutique in the area.

Please join the fray by adding comments and suggestions. This blog is designed to be a space for respectful, free-thinking, new and progressive ideas about urban apartment/loft life in the Royal Oak, Michigan, area.

    Danny,

My blog is brand spankin’ new. I have started it as a way to understand and integrate myself into this internet world we live in. So far, I am merely reading and learning the reasons people blog, then quickly tapping out one of my own. I am honestly not sure where this blog will go. (I realize this is a big no-no.) For now, I am writing about my experiences as I stumble around the online universe. I’m asking any readers to bear with me. I’m new here. ;)

Please note: I am still trying to figure out how to design the page. I’m stuck on a template right now. I am confident in my design skills, I am just failing at computer knowledge.

    Thanks!

    Hi Danny,

It’s taken me almost a week to keep up with all the comments you’ve been getting on this post. Thanks so much for doing this as I’ve discovered so many amazing blogs and people to follow!

    And now, it’s my turn!

I’m Aleksandra – a communications & social media professional living and working in beautiful, bustling Toronto. I’m a self described communications junkie trapped in a tech geek’s mind.

I started my blog to stop sacrificing all my great ideas to the washing machine gods. You see, I always experience my eureka moment somewhere random – whether at the grocery store or at the gym. So I’m usually penning these ideas on whatever scrap of paper I can find lying around or in my purse. Subsequently I find these scraps a week later in the pocket of my freshly washed pants barely readable. Hence I started my blog.

I called it “Famous Last Words” because they may actually be my famous last words – for better or for worse. My blog is a hodgepodge of ideas about branding, social media, technology and the world around me.

Let me know what you all think of it!

My blog INCLINED TO DESIGN is an eclectic collection of articles covering (so far) design, project management, personal branding, SM, China, Sales & marketing and entrepreneurs, all written from my “designerish” perspective. I was told non focused eclectic blog posts wouldn’t work but I went ahead with it anyway! Working or not, I enjoy writing and my readers; clients, former clients, friends and many of you appear to enjoy my take on things.

Wow, this is a great list of blogs! What a fun idea.

I recently moved my blog from Blogger to a self-hosted WordPress site (http://nikkistephan.com) and gave it a new name – Essential Elements. It’s still a work-in-progress as I get acquainted with WordPress.

The topics I discuss focus on what I believe are life’s essential elements, i.e. creativity, happiness, passion, success, love and inspiration. I work in the public relations industry, so my posts will sometimes relate to PR and social media.

Regardless of the topic, my posts always center on something positive in nature. :)

Know any horsecrazy girls? My website is for girls who love horses. It’s a safe place for them to review fave horse games, share horse names, horse pics etc. We try to keep it safe – my mom and I review every comment before they go live. If you know any horsecrazy girls please send them to HorseCrazyGirls.com!
