Be a Magician

David Copperfield convinced audiences that he walked through the Great Wall of China.

He also made the Statue of Liberty disappear and once flew above his TV audience.

Even though we know that walking through almost 20-feet of solid stone or hiding more than 300-feet worth of statue is impossible, we believe the illusion and wonder how he did it.

Magicians know the secret of perception. They know that if we want to believe something, we will.

How many magicians does your business have?

Goldman Sachs has a lot of magicians. Wall Street is PACKED with 'em. So is the House of Commons. It's not a question of whether or not an organization HAS or DOESN'T HAVE magicians; it's whether or not those magicians use their power for good or evil.

Great conversation starter, Danny. David C is in the business of capitalizing on the willing suspension of disbelief. Most businesses have tangible components, and perception can only be as good as the worst end-user experience (product, service, delivery, price etc.). Not sure if businesses need magicians more than they need honest doers, - those who have nothing but the best interest of their end-user at heart.Cheers!

Parenting is a magic art of sorts ~ we often delude ourselves that we're in full control of

"Conviction is contagious" - love that, Tim, and great point.I once read a book on body language and suggestive speech patterns, and how they could be combined to "close the sale". Gentle nodding as you're asking a question; looking directly as you speak; open posture as you suggest, etc.Fascinating stuff, and ones that no doubt are powerful sales tools when complementing an already-excellent product.Cheers!

Copperfield 'believes' he can fly, within the context of his performance. That belief leads to conviction for his audience. Successful business owners know their customers want to believe. Customers seek guidance. If you believe you have something of value, so will your customer. Conviction is contagious.

Very true, Kris. Mind you, the same can be said of every human being and their approach to life. The choice always comes down to the audience.
