A Birthday Request
So today’s post was going to be a look back at two years of blogging here, and some of the things that have happened since I made this my main blog on September 30 2008.
Then I read a blog post from a dear friend that stopped me in my tracks.
And completely changed what this post would be.
Stacey Monk is a girl in Florida who co-founded the Epic Change charity program with another mutual friend, Sanjay Patel. Epic Change is the parent organization behind the annual Tweetsgiving charity project in November.
The post in question is a deeply personal one, and reflects on Stacey’s current outlook on life.
It’s clear it’s a sad and bleak one.
Those she loves aren’t around her; those she loves are facing personal battles of their own; Stacey herself is at a low point. And for someone like Stacey, who does so much for others, this shouldn’t need to be the case.
So.
As a “birthday request”, if you like, I’d love for you to help me show Stacey she’s not alone. That while we might not physically be in Florida with her, we’re there in spirit and mind. That we care for someone that cares so selflessly for others.
Pop on over to Stacey’s post, and just leave some encouraging words for her. It can be anything you want, and as short or as long as you want. But let’s leave something, and show an amazing girl that folks are thinking of her.
With me?
Danny, thanks again for giving me the opportunity to do something of value. Love you, love your work and hope the blog goes from 2 years to 200 years!! xx
CherylFehlberg Ha, I best start building the blog into my will for the next generation to continue, Cheryl. ;-)
Thanks for being you, miss, and here's to future good times :)
So clearly I hit send too soon. I thought it was Stacey's birthday, so I sent her birthday greetings. I then went back to your blog and realized it was your birthday and to celebrate you wanted us to comment on Stacey's blog. Yeesh! So I apologize to you and Stacey and Danny, wish you a belated happy birthday and Stacey, thank you for all that you do for everyone and may it be returned to you threefold. Cheers, Judith
judithcane Ha, I feel terrible now to say it's actually my blog's "birthday", Judith (although my actual birthday is later this month, funnily enough).
Thank you for giving Stacey your support, miss - means a lot, and I really appreciate it. Keep being you. :)
DannyBrown OMG! This just keeps getting funnier and funnier! Have a great weekend and good on you for supporting good people.
Happy Blog Birthday, Danny! Thank you for using your blog to tell us all about what Stacey is going through. What better use for social media than to really connect people - from the heart - whether they know eachother or not?
I have left her my best wishes.
Take care,
Laura
LauraL_Williams Agreed, Laura. Sure, social media offers so many possibilities for business as well as personal use, but is there anything better than connecting - and, as you say, REALLY connecting - with others? Thanks for dropping by Stacey's. :)
Your Birthday again Danny? Tempus Fugit my friend! Let's schedule that dram soon then OK?
socialmediawave Ha, I think I could have worded the post better, my friends - it's my blog's "birthday", but I'll have that dram anyhoo. :)
Congratulations Danny! It is so great to have connected with you. Thanks for your inspiration, wisdom and friendship. Looking forward to working with you into the future! Best wishes.
marketingisus Very much likewise, Anne - Oz next year needs to be on the agenda.

JMattHicks Thanks Jeremy, really appreciate your kindness. :)
PS - I guess I worded the post a little less better than I could have, it's actually the blog's anniversary. But judging by the folks thinking it's mine, I must have made it sound like my birthday, ha. :)
DannyBrown Sorry this is almost a WEEK late, but I had a little e-mail meltdown and didn't get all of my updates! But congratulations on the blog birthday then! And here's to many more years!
Happy Birthday, Danny. Thank you for sharing your friend Stacey with us!
Katie Gutwein And thank you for sharing your support with here, Katie, you rock :)

suzannefranco Thanks Suzanne. Yep, Stacey is pretty awesome, huh? :)
Thank you so much for dropping by and giving her your support.
Done and done my friend. She is someone I definitely want to have a very happy birthday. Cheers, Judith
judithcane Thanks Judith, you're always way too kind and I appreciate it :)
Danny,
Happy Birthday friend ;) I'm beyond honored that you've chosen to share it with me. Truly.
The past few weeks have been, well, challenging to say the least. But I know this too shall pass and, in the midst of the storm rays of sunshine like you will peek through the clouds to let me know hope, love and friendship are alive and well and waiting for me if I'll look up from the drama long enough.
I also normally don't share the unseemly underbelly of my life, because there's plenty of sadness to go around, but I felt somehow that to share only the good parts was a glaring half truth, and someone, somewhere, might need to know that they're not alone if they're going through much the same thing.
Truly, and fortunately, I'm just surrounded by people who are having a really rough time right now. It's Raj, not me, who needs and deserves our prayers and kindness.
Thanks, Danny, for reminding me I'm not alone. Sometimes that's the very most healing thing a soul can remember.
Maybe it's much to girly, but a song I've been singing to myself, perhaps if you ever find yourself in dire straits, it might lift you too: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/This+Too+Shall+P...
Much love to you and yours,
Stacey
StaceyMonk That's what I love about you, Stacey - even in the dark times you're looking for the light ones.
Know that we're here and we care. And I'll be sending all my positive vibes Sanj and Raj's way until he beats this, and then some. :)
