Stepping Outside Social Media and All That Jazz

So this post has absolutely nothing to do with marketing. Nothing to do with social media. Nothing to do with PR, or communications, business or blogging tips (unless you count the stats about spam emails when you click the “More” tab on the side navigation menu).

But that doesn’t matter. Sometimes you need to step away from all of that stuff and take a look at the world around us. Learn about the people, facts and figures that make up this planet.

Which is exactly what this World Clock from Poodwaddle does.

With real-time statistics (based on projections) on the state of the world today (collated from various world organizations), it’s a very cool visual representation on the make-up of our home.

Enjoy.

Well Danny first off. Gini agreed you have a kick ass Scottish Accent! That was a great podcast with Joe Hackman.

As for this stuff. I am not a Macro guy. I am an UBER Macro Guy. I look at the Universe, the Earth, Ecosystems of all sorts and what affects them because I am wired that way. I can read the Economist World Fact Book for days on end. I might crunch numbers and data because I have the Finance Degree, and with my Artsy Fartsy side got into advertising, but its big picture that I thrive on.

Most of our problems is because people are Micro's. They view their little world and don't care about the rest. Kind of like in the US Drill Baby Drill...just not in my backyard.

One of my huge issues is overpopulation. This machine is awesome how it shows what we are doing to this planet. Seriously this Earth can handle in my Guesstimate 3billion folks. If you go to LA there is at least 10,000 square miles of concrete there. We have rivers in the world running dry. Pollution everywhere. Fisheries collapsing. Yet no matter what I say no one cares. They live for 70-80yrs and die and don't give a crap aside from their little life. It is really sad.

This Arizona Shooting. We have 15,000-16,000 murders per year in the US. Not already 595 in the US 2 weeks into 2011! Over 140,000 Americans have been killed by Americans since 9/11 and no one says a thing. No one cares. No one demands change. "And btw Muslims scare the shit out of me." WTF is that. People are dense stupid selfish and dumb (as a group). Many many individuals are not and we have huge ability for compassion. But as an entity we are no different than a cancer is inside a human body and the Earth one day will shake us off if we don't behave. She always does!

OK done with my rant. I love the Poodwaddle!

Sorry spell error. Its 'note 595 murders' vs not 595. Thank you.

You know, I actually have very little that I can add to this awesome comment, Howie, except I wish more people had your mindset. It's so easy to blame everyone but ourselves, yet we're often the ones at fault. Introspect is a very undervalued action.

I bet you'd also love seeing real-time world statistics at http://www.worldometers.info if you liked Danny's contribution above (and I thank you for it, Danny!).

Pretty cool little resource there, Ari - cheers.

Sometimes we get caught up in our world and forget about the real world around us..very sad we don't seem to recognize the things in front of us.

"Black Seo Guy "Signing Off"

That's an awesome widget. But real time? I doubt...
