Sunday Brunch – Twitter As a Marketing Tool
Welcome to a new episode of Sunday Brunch, where we talk about your questions on social media, marketing, business tips, entrepreneurship and more.
Today’s question is one that’s been asked a few times, both in the comments of past blog posts as well as online on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. The question is:
“How can you use Twitter as a marketing tool?”
There are a few ways, and I look at some of these in the video – hope it helps.
If you have a question, you can send it in via the form below. There’s also a file upload option, if you want to send in a picture of your favourite Sunday Brunch place.
Cheers, and see you same time, same place next week for some more Sunday Brunch chats.

Hi Danny,
Love your Sunday Brunch videos and your blog - full of interesting insights - thank you.
All 3 of your featured marketing tools were new to me (I find the number of tools available sometimes overwhelming!)and I intend to try them all.
So far, I have used Timely - great tool which I've since been able to recommend to two PR/journalists! Really helpful to see the performance of your tweets and get feedback on what is popular to your audience - as well as time them accurately for most impact. The only issue I found was that after a few uses, the software now only allows me to queue 1 Tweet at a time? Is this just me or is this the free version limit to encourage upgrade to Pro?
Just downloaded InboxQ to try and interact more with fellow Tweeters - so wish me luck!
Thanks again,
Laura
Danny - thanks for the comprehensive review of those apps.
I learn so much here Danny - and the great thing is that I get to learn it all; life, business, social media, marketing...what a offering you provide.
Again, thanks for the video and I have some new toying around to do!
PEACE
Hey there Jk,
Always a pleasure to have you here, mate - you keep coming, and I'll try to keep the interest. :)
Cheers, sir!
Thanks for this! This is my first Sunday brunch but won't be the last.
I've been just putt putting along with Twitter and have recently decided I want to make more of an effort to improve that channel. I've been interacting more with my followers and those I follow locally. Interestingly enough, I've gained several followers (I'm in the few hundred range, vs 1000's) in the last couple days since doing that. I think that the questions will be a good tool for me.
My business is hyperlocal so that is a big challenge for me. I follow everyone in my target market (High Desert of So Cal) that I come across, but am not sure if there are good tools for geotargeting people.
Thanks!
Alyssa
What a great post! Thanks for the information about inboxQ and the twitter chats - those are great resources - I am always looking for new places and ways to network with folks! I hope to network with you in the near future!

Danny,
Thanks so much for these links and this info! I hope you had a nice Easter with your family!

Great post Danny!
Not only can you use Twitter as a great marketing tool, but now my tweets are even showing up in Google searches. How awesome is that?
Just when I think I've seen every social media tool you show me I haven't! Thanks for sharing these, especially timely. I always posted around 3:00 am PST thinking it was best to reach the east coasters right when they woke up... but I was wrong!
Hope you had a good Easter too :)
I've been with timely and it really worked good. Timely is very useful twitter app for maximum impact of each tweet. I liked it for it figures out the best time slots for my tweets and use this info to auto-schedule my tweets.
I believe it is important for us to understand the impact of our tweets and optimize our social presence.
Anyway, I am about to give a try with inboxQ and Twitter chat list.
Thanks
Great tools Danny! I had never heard of the last two before, and those are the two I am going to look at ASAP. I think I need to be on Twitter for a bit longer for Timely to be of value.
I’m wrapping up reading the Tao of Twitter, so this post is an excellent complement to all of the Twitter thinking that Mark Schaefer’s book is inspiring. I was just getting ready to explore chatting on the T, so that link is perfect! One question I would have is what chats have you found to be the most engaging/productive? While I understand some of your answers might be industry specific, I would still be curious.
Okay… Ingrid is the only other comment on here right now, so I feel like I didn’t write enough. :) Again, very helpful post. Thanks!
Danny,
Happy Easter you and you family :).
This info is great!
I'm quite familiar with Timely.is - I gave it a go for about 10 days and actually wrote a small (cough lol) review about it a few weeks back. I had quite a few observations in regards to that actually - but all in all, the concept of "predictions" is rather interesting - just not sure how accurate it actually is. Anyhoo - I had about 1000 words or so to say about it haha.
I know a lot of people are talking about @leowid's BufferApp lately - but I haven't had a chance to try it out for myself yet. But I just might give it a go since he's been great at connecting and all.
I just installed the Chrome extension for InboxQ. I had never heard of it before and it looks fantastic. I'm definitely gonna give it a go as I'm sure it's loaded with new ideas for blog posts as well.
As for the Twitter chat schedule - WOW - is all I have to say. I've never really participated in these chats - except for Mack's #blogchat once a while back - but I think these are definitely something to look at and participate in. Thanks so much for the spreadsheet. I'm saving it :)!
Thanks again for the tips. I hope to put the last 2 to good use.
Enjoy the rest of your Easter Sunday.
Cheers
PS - I had one or two little things to say about you in today's SuperPost ;).

What a timely post. The applicability of these tools combined with your recommendation is enough for me to try and use them soon. Twitter is so much more than most realize. Thanks for sharing. :)
Thanks Danny, It's the first time Ive been on your site and I have found it very informative.. Really helpful in my process of building social media/blogging in to our marketing plan. Im very excited about all 3 apps in your demo!

Hey there Alyssa,
Thanks, and great to have you here. :)
If you're looking to geo-tag, you could check out something like Twellow.com or LoadedWeb.com. Also, funnily enough, FourSquare lets you see nearby tweets that could help connect?
Hope that helps, and look forward to seeing you around more. :)

Hey Danny, thanks for the video! I'm a huge fan of Timely and I have 4 Twitter accounts hooked up to it so I can tweet just about any great story I find to the appropriate following.
Thanks for the heads up on InboxQ. I think it will work better for me the the Twilerts that I signed up for. I always love a good Chrome extension!
Gotta love Chrome.
I've been using the likes of Hootsuite for alerts and searches, but loving the approach InboxQ takes to the whole Answer/To-Do/Campaign mindset. :)
Danny,
Thanks so much for these links and this info! I hope you had a nice Easter with your family!
Lori
I've been using the Bufferapp off an on for a few days and it seems to be "ok", I need to dig into Time.ly it might just be the right call. Thank you Danny, always something useful here.
Hey there mate,
Haven't checked out Bufferapp yet, hearing some good stuff, then some okay stuff about it. But that's the beauty of apps, always something for someone. :)
Great post Danny!

Between tweets and Facebook status updates, the search engine game just got a whole lot more interesting. :)

Hey there Samantha,
Oh, I'm pretty sure we're only (barely) scratching the surface with what's available - that's the beauty of energetic developers! ;-)
Hope you and yours had an awesome Easter. :)

Completely agree , Kira, especially if we're looking to use Twitter in any other way than a fun chat room.
Hope you enjoy InboxQ, I'm finding it a great resource.

Hi there Adam,
I guess it depends what you're after. From a blogging angle, #blogchat is a no-brainer.
From a PR/comms angle, #pr20chat and #commschat are both good.
From a marketing angle, #MMchat is often good with some great guests.
These are some that I generally enjoy checking out, but like I say I guess it comes down to what you're looking for (and what niche/topics you enjoy).
Cheers, sir!
Danny,
Happy Easter you and you family :).
