I was just browsing thru your old blog post pages and came across this and found it interesting. Ego things we all have within our soul.. I can’t agree you more with you on ‘Impress yourself. The others will follow.” It’s true.. the world would find you and want to learn more of you when you begin to get good at impressing yourself, not necessarily with people in mind. The subject of ‘ego,’ ‘approval of others’ or ‘impressing others’ may be summarized in the following quote. “A truly strong person does not need the approval of others any more than a lion needs the approval of sheep.” ~ Vernon Howard Because we don’t see ourselves as a lion, we constantly struggle and strive for the approval of others and the world. It is as simple a fact as that when we analyze ourselves and our ego…. is it not? I enjoyed reading the post. Thanks, Danny! :)

@ImagineBeauty_ The danger with always seeking approval from others is that you’ll never attain the validation you’re after. People are fickle by nature, Saach – we change our minds more than some people change their diets. 😉

Go with making those that matter happy; everyone else is a bonus.

I completely agree. If you aren’t blogging for you, it would be so easy to get burned out. I like blogging and want it to remain fun and interesting.

@RickManelius Exactly, Rick – how can we expect others to like/love us, if we don’t even know what that means?

Cheers, sir!

@margieclayman Yes. Now be off with you! 😉

@Brankica Haha, that’s my cat Ender. I have absolutely NO idea what the heck he was trying to achieve, but knew I needed a photo of it!! :)

What are your countries, miss? I know your husband is stationed abroad a lot, so do you travel a bit too?

Agreed. Impressive business and impressive people first impress themselves!

WTH is that in the image???I was just gonna say that you impressed me with all the Scottish/Canadian/Brit …. I mean I have multiple countries in my bio but come on, Danny, no one can ever beat you :)

@Ari Herzog It’s not a post about belief, it’s about impressing yourself and liking yourself first. Do that, and it’ll come across in how you treat others.

@janesheeba Do, or do not. There is no try.

If you only believe in yourself, what of your customers, constituents, and employees?

@MSchechter Haha! Methinks you’re lying.

@Erin F. Sadly I manage to sound exactly like the jackass I am in both written and spoken communications :)

Erin F.

@MSchechter I can agree with that. Some people struggle to communicate via the written word. My struggle is with the spoken one. I think my honesty still is transmitted when I speak, but it’s harder to convey it because I’m nervous.

@Erin F. I mostly agree with you, but still love to disagree, so here goes :) I completely agree that you either are honest or arent (especially once you are a little older and a little more “cooked”), but that you don’t always have the tools/skills to communicate that, especially in writing.

So if I agree with this post does that mean I’m just trying to impress you?

This is a real moral conundrum!

Love it. I’ve been sticking to this motto for some time now and it’s far more rewarding than “If they don’t like me, what am I doing” and all that.

It’s nice to be loved. But it’s even nicer to just love oneself first and not having to worry about the whims of those around us. Thanks for the reminder.

@OpEdMarketing@Erin F. If you can find a pub that serves Loch Dhu, I’ll be there in a shot, haha!

And Erin – let’s work on that! :)

@OpEdMarketing@DannyBrown Apparently, I’m going to have to find a way to get to Canada…

@DannyBrown@Erin F. I think we may be onto something here – Social Media & Scotch! As fans of your blog, happy to treat you to a Scotch and talk Social Media – will just have to find a pub that serves Loch Dhu ;0)

@OpEdMarketing@Erin F. Yep, about 15 minutes from Oakville, not far at all. 😉

@HowieSPM@DannyBrown@John Falchetto I told John when we walked in “there’s Howie, whatever you do, do NOT make eye contact; we will never be able to get rid of him”……………..

So true, I just started a new self hosted blog and while choosing the look and all…I had this thought, who am I trying to impress, myself or others. As long as you are happy, others will come along. Let others be impressed by what you really are!

@MSchechter I think I should clarify. We can try to teach people to be honest, in much the same way that we’re taught to tell the truth when we’re kids. I think we should try to instill that value in others. Ultimately, though, it’s still up to the individual person whether he or she will be honest.

@MSchechter Lorca is one of my go-to people when it comes to writing and writing philosophies and/or theories. I usually only think of those people when I’m writing poetry, but I think their ideas permeate everything I write these days.

The thing about honesty is that people either are or aren’t honest. People can be taught to write better (or they can hire an editor). I’m not at all sure they can be taught to be honest. That’s something they have to decide for themselves.

@OpEdMarketing@DannyBrown Well, that’s just not fair. I live nowhere near Oakville. I also don’t know anything about Scotch, but I’m sure I would be enlightened by a night of Scotch tasting.
