Want Success? Make It About the Team ? Always

To build an empire takes more than one person.?It doesn?t matter if you?re a solo entrepreneur, a solo blogger, a solo musician or artist.

To truly build an empire takes more than the soloist you may be ? it takes a team.

From a solo point of view, that can mean a variety of things.

For solo entrepreneurs, it?s your partner that encourages you when no-one else will. Or the bank manager who approves your loan when you first start. Or the contractor who gives you the part-time skills for that job you couldn?t do otherwise.

For solo bloggers, it?s your readers who give you strength to keep writing when you want to give up. Or commenters that validate your thoughts. Or the social community who share your blog with new eyes.

For the musician or artist, it?s the fans who buy your work when everyone else says it?s worthless. It?s the manager or agent who never gives up on you. It?s the supplier that provides your tools of the trade to make the magic happen.

For the business owner or leader that has employees, your team is easier to define ? as is the fact that, just like the soloist, your team is everything. Without them, you have nothing.

Recognize that. Nurture them. Encourage them. Give them permission to err and give them the stepping stones to the right path the next time. But most of all, make sure they feel appreciated.

We can do a lot on our own ? but with our teams beside us we can conquer the world.

Want success? Make it about the team. Always.

The Value of Effort

The great one and leadership in business

The great one and leadership in business

?You miss 100% of the shots you never take.? ??Wayne Gretzky.

Think about that. Take it outside the ice hockey equation that Gretzky used it on and apply it to anywhere ? life, business, relationships, goals. How many are you actually aiming for and how many are you striking out blindly at?

Are you happy with where you are?

Have you reached the plateau that you set for yourself when you took to the playing field? Is your job just satisfying or does it fill your creative needs?

How are you using the tools and the people around you to benefit both parties? Are you playing a team role to attack goal, or are you being selfish with the puck? Do the fans call your name or the team?s? What?s more important?

What are you doing to improve your business? Are you reining it in and hoping that the bad times will pass, or are you thinking of new tactics to confuse the opposition and win new fans? How?s your coach ? is he/she a leader or does the team need better guidance?

Wayne Gretzky was a leader on the ice and continues to be one off it as well. His shots were always 100% with intent.

How?s?your aim?

Team Building

Companies put a lot of effort into team building.

They spend thousands on booking events and locations to foster team spirit. Weekends away, surviving in the wilderness, setting tasks to pass to create a better understanding of teamwork.

Thing is, it’s very often a false economy. Team building exercises like this can work, but often feel like role-playing exercises – they’re not real-life examples.

Instead of sending people away to build a team, why not build it from the inside on recognizable terrain?

Open up the silos; ask for, and then listen to, ideas and suggestions; encourage and recognize greatness; make everyone equal.

Want to build a great team? Make the team great to begin with.
